Lightbulb AoE with water magic

I heard that AoE farming is pretty much dead after the AoE change which causes the scatter effect amongst mobs. But has there been any success with that by using water magic skills? Since some water magic skills slow down movement speed the mobs will be forced to stay in the AoE. Maybe some combo like Deep Freeze and Maelstrom could be used? I see some problems like slow casting time and heavy energy usage. But someone smarter than me may work around those I guess

I am pretty sure I am not the first one to think of this. Please forgive me if my idea seems noobish.

It is not newbish at all. This is how AoE nerf was presented to us "use snares/knockdows bla bla bla". So in theory you right, but unfortunately range of most AoE spells is way too small (adjacent) so reduced speed makes no difference since it only takes two steps get out.

Water can still be deadly in the right hands. I swear when I was fighting Ice Imps the other day Maelstrom cast has been much reduced, and my trusted friend went water on his ele, and found himself outnuking fire.

Fireball...is like the best elementalist nuke ever (excludes meteor/obsidian flame, but you get the idea)

Exactly. The snares aren't effective enough to use.

Water just plain sux compared to other elements, except for certain special-purpose builds.

I heard water is the most powerful depending. But I personally think that water is very very good even though i'm an earth ele. I just know what to do =D
Well... if you look on another thread, i'm asking for help. But too bad Crawford here can't learn how to respect people.

What is the easiest caster mob in the game to kill, relative to level?

Probaby the mergoyles outside Gates of Kryta.

What do they use?

A lot of water, plus other hexes.

Until you get to the Ice Imps, water elementalist opponents are a joke relative to their levels.

The only dangerous water mobs are the Ice Imps, and that's solely because of Mind Freeze/Maelstrom. I don't think that combo is very good, however, if you don't have the advantage of numbers, because of how costly it is compared to the disruption and damage it causes.

Oh, a mob of Water Trident guys will shut down a runner -- but again, that's with the advantage of numbers. It doesn't translate well to player characters.
